Cookies and tracking

Last updated 29 October 2026

Draft. This page is a working draft written before Near You launches. It is being reviewed by counsel and may change. Items in [square brackets] are still to be confirmed.

Short version: nambale.com sets no cookies of its own and does not use advertising or cross-site trackers. Here is exactly what it stores and what it counts.

What the website stores in your browser

We use your browser's local storage, which is like a cookie but is not sent to us with every request. It holds:

  • Your sign-in, so you stay signed in (30 days from last use). It is deleted when you sign out.
  • Your chosen language and, in the preview, drafts you typed.

These are needed for the site to work, so they do not need a consent banner. Clearing your browser's site data removes them and signs you out.

Counting visits

To learn how many people use Near You and which pages they use, we run our own visitor statistics tool (Umami) on our own server. It does not use cookies, does not follow you from site to site, does not build a profile of you, and does not keep your IP address. It records things like the page visited, the country, the type of device and browser, and where you came from. The data is not sold or shared with advertisers, and it is not sent to Google, Meta or any other analytics company.

If your browser sends a "Do Not Track" signal, we do not count your visit at all.

Maps

A listing page or the sell page may show a small map. The map pictures come from OpenFreeMap, a free public service built on OpenStreetMap data. It needs no account, sets no cookies and does not track you, but because your browser asks it for the pictures, it can see your IP address, as any website you visit can. We never ask for your own location to draw a map. Directions buttons simply open Google Maps or your phone's maps app when you tap them; nothing is sent to Google until then.

What we do not do

  • No advertising cookies, no retargeting, no social media pixels.
  • No fingerprinting.
  • No tracking of your location. If a future feature asks for your location, it will ask first and explain why.

Changes

If we ever add anything that needs your consent, such as an advertising or embedded map service that sets cookies, we will ask you first with a clear choice, and update this page.
